Electric car autonomy

« Back to Glossary Index

The range of an electric car refers to the maximum distance it can travel on a single charge of its batteries before needing to be recharged. It is a crucial parameter for assessing the practicality of an electric vehicle.
The range of electric cars depends on several factors, including battery capacity, the vehicle’s energy efficiency, environmental conditions and the driver’s driving style. The larger the size and capacity of the batteries, the longer the electric car range will generally be.
Modern electric cars have sophisticated energy management systems, which help optimise battery use to maximise range. In addition, fast-charging technologies are becoming increasingly popular, allowing drivers to recover some of the lost range quickly.
With the development of battery technologies and the expansion of the charging infrastructure, which is now also available on the move, the range of electric cars is expected to continue to increase, making them increasingly competitive with internal combustion vehicles.
